It really is, isn`t it? Indeed, it is required courage in order to write. This kind of courage is asked from you from the very moment you decide to grab the pen. When you choose to take it, you`ll have given one of your most difficult tests, as a writer. Now, you can begin.
Writing shouldn`t be scary, in my opinion. Most people are terrified when it comes to exposing themselves, to sharing their writing with others; so, they keep a diary, very private and it`s likely for them not to show it to anyone their whole life. Have to say, that diary is a true thesaurus, for it holds all the joys, pains, secrets, sharings of the one who kept it.
Nevertheless, I think it is a beautiful thing to write your thoughts and emotions on a white sheet of paper even if you are not going to show it to anyone. It`s something personal and it`s yours. The hardship comes when you write and you let those writings be discovered by others. I know from my own experience; when I first started writing, I had this prejudice of what other people might think about my work but this is over now. Now, I know that my only job and the most important is to provide my readers with fabulous stories, that`s all.
Maybe every writer encounters this at his beginnings. I`d say it`s something rather normal. What you create, comes from within you, it comes from another side of you and even if you don`t know it so well, it`s still yours. So, you are afraid that people might associate you with the story you`ve written, with your characters, the circumstances in the plot but if you can exceed this fear, you set yourself free to create amazing books.
Often, it is not comfortable to know that what you wrote is read by others and I could add that you feel yourself almost as being naked in Times Square but once you`re over this, you suddenly start to feel a nice sensation of freedom and self-expression and this is so great! All of a sudden, it seems to you that being naked in front of the crowd isn`t that bad and before you`ll know it, you actually begin to enjoy it! (Because all the attention is on you!:-))
The more you write, the more you develop yourself and soon you`ll obtain a certain “immunity” when it comes to being “naked” or to what other people might think or say about your writing. I`m not talking about that: ” I don`t care ” thing because this is what irresponsible writers say about their writing. I`m talking about putting your best into your writing but in the same time, you have a free, detached attitude related to one`s believe.
When you know and feel that you`ve put your heart and soul into your work, when you know that you did a good job, you tend to be less affected by what people may consider of your writings. It`s like going in a mission. You know you`ve completed it well and this is all that matters. Writing is marvelous and beautiful. You need to pass some challenges in order to actually “pour” it on the sheet in front of you.
You may face fear and anxiety but how else could you explore your inner self? How else could you see the Greatness that lies in you as a writer (and, not only that!), if you don`t roll up your sleeves and write?
I`d say it`s a risk worth taking and I`m willing to take it for I know that what I leave behind will speak on my behalf long time after I`m gone.
Happy writing:))
Much love,
Cristina
